Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

MODERN SLAVERY ACT COMPLIANCE STATEMENT 2020/21

This statement is published in accordance with s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps which Afternoon Paws Ltd has taken during 2021 to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its operation and its supply chains.

Afternoon Paws Ltd Business and Supply Chains – An Overview

Afternoon Paws Ltd is an artisan dog bakery, producing and selling dog bakery products and dog related gifts. Our bakery is in Reading, Berkshire and all our treats are baked fresh on site.

We are a small team and work with multiple suppliers across our supply chain. We manage our supply chain depending on the nature of suppliers. We have direct suppliers (suppliers who provide ingredients and packaging for our products) and indirect suppliers (all other suppliers, including the office supplies and utilities), all of which are predominantly in the UK.

Afternoon Paws Ltd will not support or deal with any business knowingly involved in slavery or human trafficking.

Our Policies

At Afternoon Paws Ltd we operate several internal policies to ensure that we conduct business in an ethical and transparent manner. These polices are made available to our team through online learning, which are reviewed each year to cover topics such as anti-slavery, human trafficking, anti-bribery and corruption.

The company Directors and Senior Management shall take the responsibility for implementing this policy statement and its objectives. We have systems in place to ensure that all employees are assessed for their right to work, and our wages and benefits comply with the relevant government legislation.

Our Suppliers

Afternoon Paws Ltd maintains a preferred supplier list. We are working towards understanding our supply chain and developing the appropriate policies.

This will include ensuring that a supplier has not been convicted of an offence relating to modern slavery, is taking steps to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and that they hold their own suppliers to account over modern slavery.

Our Performance Indicators

We will know the effectiveness of the steps that we are taking to ensure that slavery and/or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain if:

  • No reports are received from employees, the public, or law enforcement agencies to indicate that modern slavery practices have been identified. However where they are reported we will engage with the appropriate agencies to ensure the matter is investigated.
  • That our suppliers and partners themselves clearly state their own adherence to the standards that we at Afternoon Paws have outlined here
